Willys' back seat Ramble

Went to Elbert County to pick up the back seat for Nich's Willys . The old gent he bought it from found the seat in his barn and asked Nich if he wanted it . For free . Like getting $100 bill . So with gas and lunch money provided by Nick , I was off and running . (Yeah , I know . Bad visual of old fat guy running . )

Directions were supposed to take me around Athens , home of UGA,Bulldogs ,various and assorted other things . I hadn't been here in a long time . One thing for sure , you need a college diploma to navigate this place . Several wrong turns later I was finally back in the countryside where I belong  .

I stopped to take a few pics of the Broad River at the Ga 77 bridge . Further along the river a channel had been blasted through solid rock to allow for barge traffic  .

These bridge piling protectors are the first I have seen like this . The height and force of the river at flood stage is obvious .

After picking up the seat , Charlie and I spent an hour or so telling hog and deer hunting lies . I mean true life adventure tales . Then I headed off to Elberton , home of the Georgia Guidestones .
Having never been to Elberton before , I was surprised at the granite industry here . It is huge  ! Granite fab shops , granite etchers , and support shops line the railway going through town and are spread through out the county . From state of the art to mom and pops to totally abandoned .

Just a little north on 77 are the Guidestones . I wasn't sure what to expect even after reading up on them . You can see them setting on a hill just off 77 on Guidestone Road . Rather than bore you with a lengthy dissertation , I recommend you read the Wikipedia entry for an interesting version of their history .

One oddity ,at least to me , is the location .Pure rural Georgia farmland . Pure Americana . With all the diverse languages on the stones , you would think a huge metro area would be a more likely home for them .
Things that make you go hmmmmm...WTH ?

Wandering on home I enjoyed the sights and smells of rural Georgia . Except the fresh roadkill polecat . Damn !! Made my eyes water . At first I thought it was unusual that almost every flock of sheep and goats , and quite a few cattle herds , all had donkeys in with them . Then I remembered hearing that donkeys are hell on coyotes . With all the young of the year in the fields , it made sense .

Here's a few from Homer , Georgia .  It got a little too dark for pictures after that . I do need to check out the Lula Bridge area with the boat .

Get out and see what you can find .
